BABY TEETH AREN'T PERMANENT, BUT THEY DESERVE PERMANENT CARE
By the age of three, baby teeth will be fully in place. It’s important to take good care of your child’s baby teeth. They help shape the mouth for permanent teeth and even help guide them into position! So, if baby teeth come out too early due to decay or poor gum care, permanent teeth are more likely to overlap or grow in the wrong direction.
Baby teeth need extra care because the enamel is thinner, making them more susceptible to decay as it can break through the enamel at a faster rate. That’s why it’s never too early to start establishing good brushing habits with your little one.
BABY TEETH BASICS
In total, your child should get 20 baby teeth made up of three different types:
Flat front teeth for biting into food.
Pointy teeth perfect for tearing food apart.
The big ones in the back of the mouth for crushing and grinding food into small pieces.
DIET ADVICE YOU DON'T NEED TO DREAD
We understand, kids like sweets. But their teeth will thank you later if you cut back their sugar intake now. Sugar attacks the enamel on teeth, which can lead to decay. The enamel on your child’s tiny teeth is 50% thinner than the enamel on your teeth, so once decay begins it does more damage, more quickly.
If decay is left unchecked, it can turn into a cavity. But your child’s dentist should be able to stop it from developing into a bigger problem. Just another reason why regular dentist visits are so important.
