ABOUT FLOSSING

Though sometimes overlooked, flossing is an essential part of any oral health care routine. Though it can be a pain to get in between each and every tooth, think of how good you'll look with a fresh, clean smile! By flossing daily, you help remove plaque from hard-to-reach areas between your teeth that your toothbrush can't get to. This helps prevent tooth decay as well as removing plaque build-up.  Flossing also helps prevent gum disease and bad breath.

The Best Time To Floss Is Anytime

The most important thing about flossing? To simply do it. Regularly. Pick a time of day that works best for you, and try to devote a few extra minutes to getting in between those teeth. Too tired at the end of the day? Try flossing each morning. Do you like feeling extra clean after meals? Try flossing after lunch or dinner.

Flossing With Things Other Than Floss?

If you find flossing particularly difficult, or don't really enjoy using dental floss, you're not alone. Try using a different interdental cleaner, like a wooden plaque remover, dental pick, or a pre-threaded flosser. If you find flossing to be painful, ask your dentist or dental hygienist about proper techniques to avoid injuring your gums.

How To Floss

Here are some tips to help make flossing simple and effective for your daily routine:

1. Break off enough floss. About 18–20 inches is usually the perfect amount. Make sure you wind it around your fingers, holding tightly between your thumb and forefinger. Keep the clean floss rotating as you get to each new tooth.

2. Guide the floss between your teeth using a gentle rubbing motion. Don't snap or press the floss too hard into your gums.

3. When the floss reaches your gum line, curve it into a "C" shape around your tooth. Gently slide the floss into the space between your gums and your tooth.

4. Hold the floss tightly against your tooth. Gently rub the side of your tooth, moving the floss from your gum line with up and down motions. Repeat this method on all of your teeth, and don't forget your teeth in the back!
