About Aquafresh® Training Fluoride-Free Toothpaste

  • When should I start cleaning my baby's teeth?
  • You should start brushing your baby’s teeth as soon as they appear in the mouth. Teething starts normally at around 6 months of age, but can begin sometimes as early as 3 months, or as late as 12 months. Brush your baby’s teeth and gums twice daily after meals to remove plaque and help establish a healthy brushing routine.

  • Is this toothpaste safe to swallow?
  • Yes, the Aquafresh Training toothpaste is safe to swallow when used as directed (from 3 months and above) as it has been specially formulated for babies and toddlers.

  • Aquafresh Training toothpaste contains:
    • no fluoride
    • no preservatives
    • no sugar
    • no dairy or animal derivatives
  • Why is there no fluoride in the Aquafresh® Training toothpaste?
  • Fluoride is the main ingredient used in most toothpastes to protect against cavities. However, a condition known as dental fluorosis (white spots on permanent teeth) can develop if a child receives too much fluoride during early tooth development. The Food and Drug Administration doesn't recommend fluoride toothpaste for children under two years of age unless recommended by a dentist or health professional because children under two do not have control of their swallowing reflex and do not have the skills yet to expectorate the toothpaste properly.

  • Will my baby's teeth be protected despite the absence of fluoride in the toothpaste?
  • Cavities are caused by dental plaque, a sticky deposit made of food/milk residues and bacteria accumulating on the teeth. Regular, twice daily removal of plaque with a small, soft-bristled toothbrush specially designed for babies (such as the Aquafresh Training toothbrush) will help protect your child’s teeth against decay.

  • What is the active ingredient in Aquafresh® Training toothpaste?
  • There is no active ingredient but the purpose of this toothpaste is to get your baby accustomed to the taste/texture of toothpaste in their mouth and to the sensation of having their teeth brushed. This paste is intended to be used on a baby toothbrush such as the Aquafresh Training toothbrush which will help clean your baby’s teeth and provide him/her with the brushing experience from very early on.

  • Does Aquafresh® Training toothpaste help to relieve teething pain?
  • No, the purpose of Aquafresh Training toothpaste is to get your child accustomed to brushing. Teething pain can be helped by specific pain relief gels and medications (ask your dentist or pediatrician about those).

  • What flavors does Aquafresh® Training toothpaste come in?
  • Aquafresh Training toothpaste is available in natural Apple-Banana flavor.

  • What happens if my baby suffers irritation?
  • As with any oral healthcare product, if irritation occurs, discontinue use.
