Care Between Professional Cleanings
In the six months between your regular dentist visits, there's a lot you can do to ensure your teeth are getting the best possible care. Here are some commonly accepted guidelines for better tooth care:
- Brush your teeth twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste.
- Replace your toothbrush every three months, or sooner if the bristles become worn. A worn toothbrush won't do a good job of cleaning your teeth.
- Clean between teeth daily with floss or an interdental cleaner. Decay-causing bacteria can remain between teeth where toothbrush bristles can't reach. Flossing helps remove plaque and food from between the teeth as well as under the gum line.
- Eat a balanced diet and limit between-meal snacks.
